I’m sure you must have heard about this epic facial treatment called vampire facial,AKA Micro-needling. Kim Kardashian made this facial procedure very well known. So what makes Micro-Needling so good that it has everyone talking?! It is a Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Wait what?! This means it helps to wake up the collagen in your skin, that is the ingredient in the skin that makes your skin look plump and youthful
So if this makes your skin look more youthful, THEN SIGN ME UP!
The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury that will stimulate the skin’s natural healing procedure. The procedure is designed for use by only skin care professionals.
What does it do for my skin? The result is the production of new collagen and elastin. It can be used in combination with Hyaluronic Acid ( SkinMedica HA5), PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and other serums like growth factors ( SkinMedica TNS Essential serum or TNS Recovery Complex) to hydrate and re-structure your skin. It is ideal for creating micro-channels for deeper penetration of topical serums. I usually compare it to irrigating your grass. You make small channels for products to penetrate deeper and to trick your skin to build stronger and better skin.
So what on earth is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)? In our industry this is known as liquid gold. It’s your own plasma and this is by far the best treatment that you can combine with Micro-Needling.
So should I really go to a professional?
…. or can I just buy a Dermal Roller of the internet and do it at home? The answer is NO. You should not do this with a dermal roller and this is why. With a dermal roller the needles enters and exits the skin at an angle, causing the skin to tear. There is no control how deep you go or not because it has a fixed depth of penetration. This means that on areas like your cheeks where the skin is thicker, the needles might not even reach the level where collagen and elastin are being produced, or you can go too deep in areas where it is more bony and deep penetration is not needed like on the nose or chin and forehead. The roller also causes discomfort and you stand the risk of cross contamination. So NO and NO.
The Micro-needling Pen is highly recommended and my favorite by far. This device enters and exits the skin at a true 90 degree angle. It has variable depths to adjust to patient’s needs and the skin. It is much easier to treat small areas like the nose and eye area. There is less discomfort and prior to getting this treatment done the skincare professional will numb your facial area. It is faster and it has a single use disposable tip. No cross contamination and very sterile. Of course done by a professional!
What to expect
This treatment takes about 30-60 min to complete from start to finish.
What could clients expect after one treatment. Clients will notice an immediate glow to their skin. But visible changes to the skin develop over the next several weeks. The results can continue to improve up to six months after only one treatment. Some clients only require one treatment once a year to achieve optimal results but It is recommended that most clients should receive a series of two – three treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.
If you are prone to keloid scarring, and or have eczema or psoriasis, raised moles or warts on targeted area, this treatment would not be for you.
After getting this treatment done you may experience redness between one – three days. It might even look like you have a mild sunburn. Some people may experience inflammation, itchiness and even a mild burning sensation. Avoid sweaty exercise and sun exposure for 72 hours post-procedure . This may result in flaring up the redness and discomfort plus the sweating could increase risks of inflammation.
So who would be a great candidate for this treatment?
Anyone who have one or several of these concerns with their skin:
– Fine lines or moderate wrinkles
– Moderate skin laxity (saggy skin)
